Man attacked with bolt cutters during attempted carjacking: Calgary police

A man was seriously injured after he was attacked with bolt cutters during an attempted carjacking in northeast Calgary on Thursday afternoon.
Calgary police say officers were called to Martinvalley Crescent NE in the community of Martindale after reports of an assault and attempted vehicle theft.
Investigators believe a suspect approached a man and demanded his vehicle. When the man refused, the suspect allegedly attacked him with a pair of bolt cutters.
The victim suffered serious injuries and was taken to hospital. Police say his condition has since improved and he is now stable.
Police allege the suspect then approached a second person nearby and attempted to steal that person’s vehicle before fleeing. The second victim suffered minor injuries.
Officers arrested the suspect shortly after. Following the arrest, police say the suspect appeared to be experiencing a medical issue and was taken to hospital.
Police say 21-year-old Amine Ayman Abdelli has been charged with multiple offences, including robbery, aggravated assault, assault with a weapon, drug possession and several weapons-related charges. He is scheduled to appear in court on Oct. 15.
