‘Final steps’: update on Bearspaw work & restrictions coming Thursday

Calgary city hall says officials will update residents Thursday on the Bearspaw South Feeder Main construction project and the water restrictions needed to support the work.

Mayor Jeromy Farkas and city official Michael Thompson, who has been relaying project information during news conferences over the course of the year, will present the latest information.

A city news release states Thursday’s event will provide details “as the project enters its final steps of construction and the water restrictions needed to support this work in November.” The feeder main’s replacement pipe is anticipated to be completed in December.

The city has previously said the existing feeder main will need to be shut down to connect the new pipe to the water network, and that temporary Stage 4 outdoor water restrictions and indoor water conservation measures will be needed.

As of late September, about 80 per cent of the new pipe was installed.
