Critics are calling for an oilsands panel member to be removed

NDP critic Rachel Notley says Environment Minister Rob Renner should never have appointed Bruce Carson to Alberta’s oilsands monitoring panel.
RCMP are investigating Carson for allegedly lobbying the Indian Affairs Department to land contracts on First Nations territory for an Ottawa-based water company that employed his fiancee.
Notley says Renner must of known about Carson’s conflict of interest and the appointment shows the Stelmach government doesn’t take environmental monitoring seriously.
Carson, a former advisor for Prime Minister Stephen Harper, asked for a leave of absence from his executive position at the University of Calgary and from the oilsands panel.
Greenpeace and Sierra Club Prairie want to see Carson removed from the panel.
