Murder charges in couple’s disappearance stayed; family sees it as setback

EDMONTON – The family of two missing Alberta seniors says they remain confident police will solve the case.

Lyle McCann and his wife, Marie, both in their 70s, were last seen alive as they fuelled up their motorhome in St. Albert, a bedroom community northwest of Edmonton, in July 2010.

Their bodies have never been found.

The Crown abruptly stayed the charges against Travis Vader on Wednesday during a pre-trial hearing, just a few weeks before the case was set to go before a jury.

In an emailed statement, the family says it is a delay in their search for justice.

They ask that anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers and point out the $60,000 reward is still available. (The Canadian Press)
