Roadside photography becoming distracted driving issue

Even if you didn’t cause the accident, it doesn’t mean you won’t be charged.

A number of rubberneckers will receive tickets for distracted driving after they took pictures of a car that had crashed into the centre median of the QE2 near Olds, Thursday afternoon. RCMP recorded their license plate numbers and they’ll be getting tickets in the mail.

Calgary Police say it’s becoming a big problem here, as well.

Inspector Ken Thrower said even if you’re stuck in a traffic jam and not moving, it’s still against the law to the holding onto your phone and be taking photo or videos.

“It’s still distracted driving,” he said. “You do not have two hands on the wheel.”

He said it’s a growing problem in this day and age, because everyone has a mobile device they want to be plugged into, all the time.
