Fire advisory issued in Calgary

The Calgary Fire Department has issued a fire safety advisory for the city because of the recent dry weather and the high risk of grass fires.
They’re asking you to be extra cautious when barbecuing or using any outdoor open flames, and especially when disposing of smoking materials.
People are asked to be particularly vigilant in vulnerable areas, such as natural growth parks and green spaces with dry grasses and shrubs.
Public Information Officer Carol Henke says the advisory doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy a backyard fire pit.
“It’s not a fire ban. It’s just an advisory to ask you to be extra careful because there is an elevated risk due to the dryness and the lack of moisture,” said Henke.
Henke says rain and snow in the forecast this week will help lessen the risk of fires.
Highway-22 south of the village of Longview was closed on Thursday because of grass fires that were started by fireworks.
RCMP have taken three suspects into custody, after RCMP say they allegedly shot the fireworks out of a vehicle window.
RCMP Cpl. Tiffany McGregor says arson charges are possible, but at no time was there any threat to people, animals, homes or farms.
On Wednesday, a fast-moving fire threatened several homes in Calgary in the Greenwood Village Mobile Home Park.
Luckily, nobody was injured and no property was damaged.
