RCMP looking to recruit more visible minorities

The RCMP is holding a special event Thursday night in Calgary, with the aim of representing more people in the community.

Mounties are hosting a career presentation to recruit more visible minorities.

Interested people can learn about the 150 different kinds of roles in the police service, and a recruiting officer will also be there to offer advice, and answer questions.

In 2013, only 8.7 per cent of officers self-identified as a visible minority.

The RCMP says it wants to increase that number to 20 per cent.

The meeting is at the Duncan Building in the northeast at 6 p.m.
