The Calgary Zoo’s distinctive white black bear now has a name!
More than 4,000 people voted for their favourite name for the new attraction and the resounding choice was “Manuka”.
Larissa Mark from the Calgary Zoo told 660News, it’s a kind of food.
“It’s actually a New Zealand type of honey,” she said. “We asked our zookeepers for their input with helping for the names and it was one of their choices because of Manuka’s colouring. Because of her blonde-honey tones, they thought it would be a perfect fit.
The zoo actually acquired Manuka from around Elkford, B.C. last August, but they’ve been taking their time getting her accustomed to her new habitat in the Canadian Wilds exhibit.
