Charges laid in separate dog attack incidents

Charges have been laid in two separate dog attacks in Calgary that left a cat dead, and a jogger and her dog injured.

Last month, a woman was running with her dog along Springbank Crescent S.W. when they were seriously injured by a Great Dane.

The man who had been walking the aggressive animal allegedly then left the scene but he and his wife, the owner of the dog, now face several charges.

On Tuesday, two dogs running at large killed a cat in an alley near 7th Street and 14th Avenue NW.

Abdul Rafih with Animal Bylaw Services says in both cases the dogs were in the care of someone other than their owners.

He reminded owners they need to pass on some of the rules when lending their pets to a friend.

“For example, if the animal is going to leave the property, make sure it’s on a leash at all times, know where the off-leash parks are, understand if the animal has any issues with other animals, and the safety elements and components of where children are,” he explained.

The dogs involved in both attacks are in the custody of animal and bylaw services, and those charged have mandatory court appearances.
