Lightning knocks out power

A severe lightning storm that provided an early morning light show east of Calgary has left some rural Albertans in the dark.
Fortis Alberta reports outages across the region.
“Especially so in the High River and Strathmore areas,” Fortis spokesperson Jennifer McGowan tells 660News. “In the north we’ve had outages anywhere from Fort Saskatchewan, Lacombe, Sylvan Lake, Camrose, Rimbey, right down to Wetaskiwin and Provost-Wainwright.”
“There” (are) “alot of rural areas affected by this outage,” adds McGowan. “So equipment on polls that has been damaged as a result of this storm passing through. We have our crews out there accessing, investigating and also restoring power.”
She says the outages are limited to pockets of only a few customers, so it’s difficult to determine exactly how many people have been affected.
The largest outage is near Leduc where about 3,000 customers have been left in the dark.
