When an expansion of Metis Trail opens this fall in the northeast, the road will go from four lanes to two and then back to four lanes again.
The strange alignment will occur all within a few kilometres; The Calgary Herald is calling it “The Oscar Fech Bottleneck.”
That’s because Fech, a failed mayoral candidate and longtime thorn in City Hall’s side, owns a large portion of land in northeast Calgary. Some of that land will be needed to make Metis Trail a full four lanes in the area.
Jim Stevenson, the area’s alderman, says no one’s looking forward to it, but the city is going to have to “take on Oscar.”
