Ed Stelmach exits with $1-million payout

Retiring Alberta politicians have a lot to look forward to, and in the case of former premier Ed Stelmach, a whole lot.

Scott Hennig of the Canadian Tax-payers Federation tells The Calgary Herald that Steady Eddy will be handed over $1-million following the next election when his retirement papers are officially processed.

The golden hand shake comes down as a “transition allowance” which pays the equivalent of three months salary for every year served in public office.

Other big pay-outs will go to Iris Evans and Barry McFarland, who will each net about $700-thousand, according to Hennig’s estimates.
