The Mustard Seed hosts their annual traditional Christmas feast for Calgary’s homeless Sunday.
Hundreds of the city’s less fortunate came to enjoy the home-cooked meal, music and entertainment.
Calvin has lived on the street for the past eight years and says the dinner means so much more then just receiving a meal.
“You’re in a group of people who are in the same situation as you, so it kind of picks up your morale, like you aren’t the only one that’s out and doesn’t have a family to go to. So they’re kind of like family, when you’re down here,” he says.
Alyssa Burnham with the Mustard Seed says the dinner for the homeless is in its 30th year and is hosted by the Bannerman/Clark family.
The dinner started when Doug and Del Bannerman lost their two sons in February of 1982, in a car accident.
They say instead of being sad during the holidays they chose to help organize a dinner for the homeless with close relatives, the Clark family.
Last year, more than 1,200 meals were served and similar numbers are expected over the weekend.
