Flames fans help break 50/50 record

The generosity of Flames fans is sky high as playoff excitement continues.

The 50/50 ticket sales broke a record for any event ever held at the Saddledome on Saturday night, with a pot of $264,000.

Half of that money goes to the winner and the other half is donated to the Calgary Flames Foundation which helps out fifty charities each year.

Spokesperson Candice Goudie tells City News, tailgating and being open early contributed to the increase in sales, but the biggest thank-you has to go to the generous fans.

“No matter what’s happened on the ice the last nine years, they’ve just really come to play with everything we do off the ice and they’re so supportive and just watching our fans and people in this building really take to whatever we’re doing and really supporting all of the things going on here. It’s really just out of this world,” Goudie said.

Before this, the most money raised at an event at the Saddledome through 50/50 tickets was at the World Juniors.

That pot was $240,000.
