An eight-year-old boy who was hit by a truck in Cranston is suffering from a severe brain injury.
Police say the boy and his sibling crossed in front of a truck near an unmarked crosswalk on Cranford Dr. S.E. last Thursday at about 5 p.m.
“Today we are still critical, life threatening, but he is strong, and we have had a quiet past almost 20 hours – and that is amazing, and so encouraging to lift my spirits,” Ethan Nielson’s family wrote on Facebook.
According to a GoFundMe page set up to help Ethan’s family with expenses, the boy was walking home from piano lessons when he was hit. He was rushed to a nearby hospital, and then transferred to Alberta’s Children’s Hospital where he had a CT-scan confirming Ethan was dealing with a severe brain injury and the prognosis was not good.
“Ethan is a fighter, strong, so stubborn, and loved immensely. The priority in his treatment has been his traumatic brain injury, but he has also sustained multiple fractures. His pelvis is fractured in 6 places – BUT it is stable and will heal fully with minimal intervention,” it says on the GoFundMe page.
The plan is to allow Ethan to start waking up Monday.
