Calgary police impose changes to combat false alarms

Calgary police are set to phase in some changes to it’s dispatch system saying of the 45 alarm calls they get each day, 96 per cent are false alarms.

Starting May 15th, 9-1-1 will no longer dispatch calls when only one zone has been activated and alarm agencies will have to contact two key holders before contacting police.

You’ll also need to pay to get a yearly permit for your alarm, whether commercial or residential, or police won’t respond.

They also won’t go to commercial buildings during regular business hours if the alarm is tripped.

A new false alarm penalty structure will be put in place, which is currently being reviewed by council.
