Nordstrom coming to Canada in fall 2014

High-end U.S. department store Nordstrom will be making its Canadian debut in fall of 2014.

The Seattle-based retailer will place stores in Toronto, Ottawa, Calgary and Vancouver. In Toronto, the store will be built at Sherway Gardens, and will open in fall 2016.

The announcement sees Nordstrom join a number of foreign chains who are vying for coveted Canadian consumer dollars.

“There is a terrific retail environment here, a customer that we’re anxious to get to know,” Erik Nordstrom, the retailer’s president, said in a press conference.

“We’re the new kids on the block, and there’s a lot to learn.”

Nordstrom will also be moving into spaces vacated by Sears at Pacific Centre in Vancouver, Chinook Centre in Calgary and Rideau Centre in Ottawa.

Canadians can already purchase items from the store through Nordstrom’s website.
