23-year-old skateboarder dead after collision

A 23-year-old man has died of severe head injuries after being struck by a jeep while skateboarding at the intersection of MacLeod Trail at Heritage Drive in the South.
The incident happened around 10pm Friday.
Witnesses say the victim was travelling down the hill on west bound Heritage Drive and proceeded through the south crosswalk on MacLeod.
“A jeep being driven by a 37-year-old woman was coming south at the time and the skateboarder didn’t make it all the way across MacLeod Trail before she struck him in the intersection, right in the cross walk but she had the right of way, she had the green light according to witnesses and the skateboarder was proceeding against his signal,” says Duty Inspector Paul Stacey.
The skateboarder was not wearing a helmet and his name will not be released at this time.
Speed nor alcohol are considered factors and charges are not anticipated for now.
