It was a jarring early morning for a couple hundred people downtown.
Fire crews were called out to an apartment complex just after midnight Thursday at the corner of 8 Avenue and 8 Street SW.
When they arrived, Battalion Chief Paul LeBlanc says they found a lot of smoke in the building.
“It was a generator issue — the generator had overheated. The oil had landed on top of a hot manifold, and the HVAC system had picked that smoke up and sent it throughout the building,” he explained.
LeBlanc says 240 people were forced onto city buses for about an hour as crews cleared the smoke, before residents were allowed back in.
No one was hurt.
