Jonathan Hope found criminally responsible

A Calgary man has been found criminally responsible in his young daughter’s death.

16-month old Summer Hope died after ingesting her father’s methadone in 2006.

The court ruled Jonathan Hope did not provide the necessities of life for the baby.

Hope said he was suffering from a mental disorder at the time, but a psychiatric assessment did not support that claim.

The Crown Prosecutor argued that Hope knew his daughter drank the substance but  neglected to summer any medical attention.

Hope will be sentenced June 1, 2010. His common-law wife Lisa Guerin is already serving time for her part in the death.
