Housing starts up

Housing starts are down overall in Canada, but up in the prairies including in Calgary.

Nationally there were just fewer than 190,000 starts for July across the country and that’s down on a month-over-month basis by 1.6 percent.

It’s a different story in our city where there were over 1,100 housing starts last month.

Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation Analyst Richard Cho tells 660News that’s an increase of 54 percent from a year ago.

Year to date the number of starts has doubled compared to 2009.
