Orphaned newborn’s condition improving

A seven-week-old infant, orphaned over the weekend, is out of intensive care.

The family of Ysa Melnyk says while her condition is improving, she’s not eating.

But her grandfather tells The Calgary Herald that’s typical with brain injuries.

He says the little girl has bad headaches a lot of the time, and doctors are doing more tests to determine if she’ll suffer any long-term effects.

She was in the backseat when her parents’ car crossed the centre line and hit a truck head-on Friday night.

A funeral is planned for Saturday for Michael and Merin Melnyk.
