Three American retailers who were reported to have originally joined a list of US companies boycotting fuel from the Alberta oilsands have said they’re not on board with it anymore.
The GAP, Levi Strauss and Timberland have had their names taken off a Facebook group encouraging Albertans and Canadians to keep their money away from the retailers.
The Alberta Enterprise Group’s Tim Shipton tells 660News people in our province have clearly come out in support of the oilsands on this one, but there are still lessons to learn.
“I think what this shows is that we have to remain vigilant here in Alberta to get the message out because despite the retraction, damage was done,” he says.
Shipton says he’s confident the companies were only trying to do the right thing by promoting environmental sustainability, but quickly realized boycott organizers had based their campaign on a lot of misinformation and faulty logic.
