EDMONTON (660 NEWS) — The province has announced new legislation that makes it easier for hard-working Albertans to get their COVID-19 vaccination.
“Albertans want to get the vaccine, but some may not be able to schedule an appointment because of their working hours, and may not be able to afford a loss of pay which is a barrier to getting the vaccine” said Minister of Labour and Immigration, Jason Copping. “So, to address this issue our government intends to introduce legislation that will amend the Employment Standards Code to provide a COVID-19 vaccine leave.”
That legislation being passed Wednesday evening and now goes into effect immediately.

“As with other leaves, Albertans can not be fired or disciplined by their employer for taking this leave,” Copping said. “Leave can be used twice if Albertans are getting a two-dose vaccine.”
Copping added the leave will apply to full-time and part-time workers, regardless of how long they have been at the job.
