New AFN representative elected

First Nations Chiefs from across Alberta have elected a new representative to the Assembly of First Nations.

Cameron Alexis of Alexis Nakoda Sioux Nation was the winner with 25 of 45 votes.

Five people were in the running, including Sandford Big Plume, former Chief of the Tsuu T’ina nation west of Calgary.

The Calgary Herald reports Alexis replaces George Stanley who lost to Shawn Atleo in the campaign for AFN National Chief.
