Calgary gets temporary relief from the smokiness

CALGARY – We’re getting a breath of fresh air in Calgary for the first time in about a week as we see a change in weather systems.

Surface winds have shifted to south-easterly, drawing air in from southern Saskatchewan and Montana, improving the air quality in Calgary as few fires are burning in those areas.

We may still see a little bit of haziness Tuesday due to an upper-level wind from the west.

Environment Canada revoked its special air quality statement for Calgary early Tuesday morning.

Over the last few days, we saw Calgary’s air quality degrade and a risk level of 10 to 10+ issued. Now, that risk rating will vary between levels two and five.

With fires continuing to rage in British Columbia and Washington State, and an easterly wind expected as early as the weekend, we could see the haziness return to the city.
