CALGARY — Joe Magliocca has announced he has submitted his papers and will be seeking re-election as City Councillor in Ward 2.
Questions were raised about Magliocca’s plans heading into this fall’s municipal election as he was the last of the councillors to file his papers.
“Over the last 4 years I kept my promise to vote against tax increases, and I will continue to vote for lower taxes should I once again earn the support of the residents of Ward 2,” Magliocca said on Facebook.
“Over the next 4 years, we need a City Council that is focused on lowering the property tax burden, creating private-sector jobs, and rebuilding our economy.”
Postmedia first reported early last year that Magliocca had inappropriately spent more than $9,000 on meals and drinks at the Annual Federation of Canadian Municipalities Conference in 2019.
He has since repaid the money owed.
Currently, there are six other candidates running in Ward 2 that include: Sareen Singh, Ron Taylor, Kim Tyers, Theo van Besouw, Jennifer Wyness and Francis Aranha.
The municipal election is set for Oct. 18.
