Calgary man seriously injured after hit and run downtown

A man has been seriously hurt after a hit and run in downtown Calgary on Tuesday morning.

Calgary police say they responded to 1 Street and 12 Avenue SW around 10 a.m. after reports a person was hit by a U-Haul truck.

It’s believed the truck drove up onto the sidewalk where it hit the victim and a telephone pole.

Police say the driver of the truck fled eastbound on 11 Avenue SW on foot after hitting the man. Shortly after the collision, EMS arrived and took the man to hospital in serious condition.

The driver of the truck is said to have legitimately rented the U-Haul, however, his identity is under investigation. He is described as being between 45 and 50 years old, around 5’10” tall, with balding hair. He was seen wearing blue jeans and a green sweater with a white shirt underneath.

Anyone with further information is being asked to contact police at 403-266-1234.
