CityNews Meteorologist Michael Kuss says April is usually snowy, but not like this.
“It’s the second snowiest month in Calgary on average by a little bit. But yesterday was exceptional,” Kuss said Wednesday.
He says the 12.4-centimetre record from 1985 was shattered with Tuesday’s dump.

“Record-setting snowfalls, those are rare,” Kuss said. “When you get 20 plus centimetres on any day, any time of year in and around Calgary, it’s unusual.”
CityNews Calgary News Director Tim Parent lives in the northwest where more than a foot of snow was on the ground Wednesday morning.
“It’s near impossible to get out of my street,” Parent said. “There’s just way too much snow on the ground right now.”

Calgary Police say there were 139 crashes reported to them Tuesday night, including 19 hit and runs. 106 of the crashes did not result in injuries.
In the south, very little snow fell by comparison, with some folks bragging about being able to see their grass still.
Walkways on 5 Street SW appear to be mostly clear, and there’s little no accumulation on roads.
