Calgary Stampede 2022 a potential lifesaver for local businesses

This year’s Calgary Stampede could be one for the history books and it’s time to dust off those boots, cowboy hats, and your best pair of wranglers.
In one month, the greatest outdoor show on Earth will be back. It’s expected to be a huge party after having a scaled-back version last year. Businesses are also hoping to bounce back after losing so much over the last couple of years.
This year’s Stampede festival is projected to generate $500 million in tourism for the province.

Alberta Tourism Association President Ernie Tsu adds this opportunity is especially important for businesses out of Calgary’s downtown core.
“Our downtown restaurants down in that Stephen Avenue area where companies are only starting to come back, they need that extra boost of business and the Stampede brings that,” said Tsu.
It all gets started on July 8 with the Stampede Parade. The stampede parade marshall for 2022 is Kevin Costner, who will be donning that classic white cowboy hat – a Calgary tradition.
