Calgary has a new millionaire after jackpot win

Calgary has a new millionaire, but he wasn’t sure it was the real deal at first after holding the ticket for a few days.

Jonathon Lloyd won his ticket on the Oct. 14 Lotto Max draw after purchasing the ticket at the Petro Strathcona in Calgary’s southwest the day before.

“I couldn’t believe it at first,” Lloyd said in a statement. “I had to check each number to verify.”

Lloyd checked it again a few days later at a nearby store to be sure, and he turned out to be a winner.

The winning numbers were 5, 8, 17, 36, 39, 40, and 43.

“I’m going to do some home improvements and travel,” Lloyd said. “I’m also looking forward to helping out a friend in need.”

“It’s unbelievable,” Llyod added.

Lloyd was one of 19 winners in Western Canada as part of Lotto Max’s “Maxmillions” prizes during its largest jackpot run from August to October.

There was a $70 million Lotto Max jackpot win on Oct. 22 in Calgary, and the winner still hasn’t come forward.

It’s the biggest prize since the Lotto Max pool was a record-breaking $140 million in June 2021.
