Calgary police arrest two connected to package and mail theft

Calgary police arrested two people Wednesday in connection to identity and “credit card manufacturing” along with thefts dating back weeks ago.

It started when police got word from tenants in a downtown condo complex in October.

Tenants told their Community Resource Officer (CRO) that people were allegedly stealing packages and mail from others in the building.

Police received enough evidence from the CRO to conduct a search warrant on Dec. 2 for a home and vehicle.

Numerous items were found, including a handful of packages allegedly stolen from other tenants, an ID and credit card forgery manufacturing lab, ID of the suspect under assumed names, parts of a Glock handgun, and “hundreds, if not thousands,” of mail from various business and residential buildings in the city, police say.

Investigators arrested the two suspects without incident.

Forty-six-year-old Erin Lindsey Emerson and 38-year-old Steven Edward Hartis are facing multiple charges for possession of stolen property, possession of forgery instruments, and possession of forged documents. Hartis faces an additional charge for breaching a release order.

No other information has been released.
