Calgary under heat warning: Environment Canada

After days of damp and cool temperatures, the heat is once again expected to return to Calgary, with Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) issuing a heat warning for the city.

Temperatures are set  to reach 29 C combined with overnight lows near 14 C for the next three to five days, the agency said Wednesday.

Although temperatures will lower for the Canada Day long weekend, residents and visitors are Calgary are advised to take steps to protect themselves and others from the sweltering heat.

Environment Canada recommends rescheduling outdoor activities to cooler hours of the day, taking frequent breaks from the heat, spending time in cooled indoor spaces when possible, drinking plenty of water, and ensuring no children or pets are left inside a closed vehicle for any length of time.

Calgarians should also monitor for symptoms of heat stroke including high body temperature, lack of sweat, confusion, fainting, and unconsciousness.

Those will pre-existing health conditions, including babies, children and seniors, are at higher risk for heat-related illness.
