RCMP officer charged after allegedly attacking someone with weapon in Calgary

An Airdrie RCMP officer is facing charges after he allegedly attacked someone with a weapon outside a Calgary apartment building.

The RCMP say one of their officers was arrested on March 9 after Calgary police responded to reports of an assault in the city’s northwest.

It is alleged the off-duty Airdrie RCMP officer assaulted a man outside an apartment. The victim was struck after he fell to the ground, but police say he did not sustain injuries.

Const. Maxime Bedard, 37, is facing two charges including assault with a weapon and uttering threats. He has been suspended with pay and his status as an officer will be reviewed once the criminal matter has been resolved.

Bedard has seven years of service with the RCMP

He is scheduled to appear in a Calgary courtroom next month.
