Calgarians are being encouraged to rethink their daily commute plans as the city unveils new tools it says will help people stay ahead of delays.
The City of Calgary launched its upgraded Plan Your Trip tool this week, offering real-time traffic information to help drivers navigate a construction-heavy season.
The online hub is designed to reduce congestion and give residents a clearer picture of what’s happening on the roads and why. The tool pulls live data from the city’s 24/7 Traffic Management Team.
It arrives with Calgary ranking ninth in Canada for traffic congestion, according to the 2025 TomTom Traffic Index.
City traffic engineer Anthony El‑Araj says the platform brings together everything commuters need to know before heading out.
“It has the latest information regarding current construction, but also future road closures and construction, coupled with incidents and other special events,” he said.
What the Plan Your Trip hub offers
- A simple starting point to check conditions before leaving home
- A connected traffic map showing closures, incidents, live camera feeds, and dynamic sign messages
- The ability to look ahead at upcoming delays, detours, and special events
- Real-time updates as conditions change
The site isn’t just for drivers and also compares travel times across transit, walking, and cycling.
