Severe thunderstorm watch issued for Calgary

Calgary is under a severe thunderstorm watch on Wednesday with Environment Canada warning conditions are primed for dangerous weather later in the day.

The weather agency says thunderstorms are likely to develop this afternoon and early this evening, with the potential for strong wind gusts, large hail, heavy rain, and lightning.

Calgarians are encouraged to stay on alert for changing weather conditions throughout the day.

People are urged to head indoors if they hear thunder or see a threatening storm approaching.

A severe thunderstorm watch means the atmosphere has the right ingredients to produce storms. A warning would mean a severe storm is already in progress.
