A series of vehicle thefts and a violent late‑night robbery at a southeast Calgary pub has led to charges against four men.
Calgary police say the crime spree began on May 11 around 6:30 p.m., when two men smashed the window of a Toyota Tacoma parked at Nose Hill Park.
Once inside the truck the suspects stole a purse containing ID, credit cards and a key for a Jeep Grand Cherokee. They left the scene in a stolen red Ford F‑150.
About five hours later, around 11:30 p.m., the Jeep Grand Cherokee was stolen from outside the victim’s home in Mayland Heights. Security footage showed the stolen Ford F‑150 leaving the area alongside the Jeep.
Roughly an hour after that, at 12:30 a.m., three suspects drove the stolen Jeep to Chicago’s Pub on 17 Avenue SE.
Two men went inside the pub with a shotgun and demanded cash. A customer was struck in the face with the shotgun during the robbery and seriously injured.
The suspects fled in the Jeep, which was later found burned in an alley behind 40 Street SE in Forest Lawn.
A couple days later on May 14, the stolen F‑150 was involved in a single‑vehicle crash in Edmonton and abandoned. Investigators were able to link the truck to another car prowling a few days earlier.
Police were able to identify three suspects through security footage at multiple scenes and other investigative work.
On Juen 11, officers executed three search warrants at a home on Penedo Way SE in the community of Penbrooke Meadows, and two homes in Drayton Valley. A fourth suspect was identified during the searches.
Bradley Almas and Sean Porter, of Edmonton and Drayton Valley, are accused of armed robbery, disguise with intent and arson. Aaron Stelcer of Calgary faces armed robbery and arson charges. Ethan Byron of Calgary is also charged with armed robbery.
Police say additional charges are expected.
