6 hospitalized after downtown Calgary structure fire, dozens displaced

Six people were transported to hospital after a fire in downtown Calgary on Sunday afternoon which also displaced approximately 50 residents.
Emergency crews were called to Macleod Trail near 4 Avenue SE around 12:25 p.m. for reports of a structure fire.
Calgary police said officers were on scene assisting firefighters with crowd and traffic control as crews responded to the blaze.
“Firefighters promptly initiated rescue operations and executed an aggressive interior attack. A second alarm was requested to provide additional resources,” according to the Calgary fire department.
Several people were safely rescued, and the fire was contained to a single room although the building as a whole has taken smoke damage.
Police said that one person was transported to hospital in serious condition while two others were taken to hospital as a precaution and are in stable condition.
However, the fire department later said six people were transported to hospital but did not speak to their injuries.
There is no word on the cause of the fire.
