Organized crime network dismantled after 11‑month investigation: Calgary police

Police have laid charges against eight people and seized guns, drugs and stolen vehicles after a nearly year‑long investigation into an alleged organized crime network operating in and around Calgary.

Calgary police say the investigation began in September 2025 when officers identified a man they believed was selling drugs, and eventually uncovered a larger network involved in drug trafficking, illegal weapons, vehicle re‑vinning and prescription fraud.

“This is a diverse group that we encountered here,” said CPS Sgt. Matt Gow. “The eight are not homogenous to one particular community. That was not the target or the focus of our investigation, we focused on criminality.”

Because of the large scale of the investigation, police conducted searches and arrests in different phases over the course of several months.

On Dec. 17, 2025, officers searched homes in Delacour and Chestermere, along with a Jeep linked to the suspects. Police found cash, forged prescriptions, prescription drugs believed to have been obtained illegally, and a radio‑frequency jammer.

Police charged Ausama Mohamed, 28, of Chestermere, and Bonnie Leblanc, 40, of Delacour. Both were released and are scheduled to appear in court later in 2026.

The second phase took place on March 9 when police searched a home in the NE Calgary community of Cityscape, a downtown apartment, and three vehicles.

Officers seized a loaded handgun, ammunition, more than 160 grams of meth, 115 grams of cocaine, OxyContin pills, cash and drug‑trafficking materials. They also found 107 individually wrapped drug baggies hidden inside vehicle door panels.

Two Calgary men, Mohammed and Omed Salimi, were charged with drug‑trafficking offences and released pending court dates.

Later the same day, police stopped another suspect believed to be selling drugs. After seizing their vehicle, officers found a loaded handgun, ammunition, 128 grams of cocaine packaged for sale, brass knuckles and hidden compartments.

Police later arrested the suspect, 21‑year‑old Jayson McCormack, after he fled from a traffic stop in July. He was charged with multiple drug and gun offences and released pending court.

The final phase occurred on March 26 when officers searched a rural property in Rocky View County, a southwest Calgary apartment. and two vehicles.

During the searches, police seized 13 rifles, four of them hidden in a secret room, two loaded handguns, a loaded shotgun, more than 760 rounds of ammunition, body armour, cocaine, MDMA, cash, stolen vehicles, drug‑packaging materials, and weapons such as crowbars and a baseball bat.

Two Calgary men, Ahed Alwan and Asrar Mansouri, were charged. Both are scheduled to appear in court in August.

Police say a third man, 45‑year‑old Christopher Hayward, is wanted on multiple gun and drug‑trafficking charges. Investigators have released a photo of Hayward and describe him as around 5’7″ tall, 140 lbs., with brown hair, green eyes, and tattoos on his arms and chest.

Over the course of the investigation, officers obtained 74 court orders, carried out 15 search warrants, and seized more than $58,000 worth of drugs. A full list of charges laid against each suspect can be found here.

Calgary police say they have concluded this specific investigation, but they will continue to investigate how the drugs, weapons, and ammunition that was seized made its way into the city.

“We will fully investigate the origin of these weapons, if they were used in other crimes, and if they have connections that take them into other provinces,” said Gow. “I won’t say that every single person that came into this investigation has received charges on it, there are others involved.”
