Police caution drivers ahead of long weekend

Despite the soggy forecast for the May long weekend, Calgary Police are warning drivers that outbound routes will be busy Friday afternoon.

They are also reminding drivers to give due care and attention.

In the interest in making sure Calgarians enjoy a safe start to the season, the CPS is issuing its annual May-Long reminder to take it easy, in and outside of the city all weekend, and especially Friday afternoon.

“Friday is the most collision-prone day of the week. And I’m sure everyone is chomping at the bit to head out of town or do whatever they’re going to do, so please, give yourself enough time to get to where you’re going,” says Constable Jim Lebedeff from the Police Traffic Section.

Lebedeff adds, drivers need to watch their speed, be aware of motorcycles, and definitely stay away from the wheel if you’ve been drinking.

RCMP and Alberta Sheriffs have already warned that highway checkstops will be active over the weekend.
