The Conservative party is in recovery mode after three of their members resigned because of the Senate expense scandal.
Prime Minister Stephen Harper has spent the last few weeks focusing on getting American approval for the Keystone XL pipeline but, it’s his party back home that has taken the attention.
University of Windsor political scientist Cheryl Collier cautions the Conservatives to keep Canadians aware of the other things the government is doing.
“They need to put this to rest and not let it fester and become a narrative that makes people talk about accountability and other failings potentially the Conservatives have had,” Collier says.
That might be difficult as the opposition is sure to keep the scandal in the spotlight.
Collier says having both Mike Duffy and Nigel Wright step down is the best way for the party to move forward.
