It’s perhaps the only time you want to get in the back of an ambulance.
It’s part of the EMS Station #4’s open house as the kickoff to National EMS Awareness Week, where paramedics, along with their equipment and ambulances, are on display.
Health Care in Motion and Paramedic Chiefs of Canada President, Darren Sandbeck said with similar events going on across the country, it’s just as important for him as it is for the public.
“We talk lots about using 911 appropriately, what happens if you need to use EMS,” he said. “Talk about some of the programs that we have underway in education and some of our community programs.”
Sandbeck adds it’s not only a chance to educate the public and showcasing their profession but having some fun especially with children.
“Kids like to climb in the back of the unit, see the flashing lights,” he said. “It’s a good experience for them if it’s a non-threatening environment.”
The Paramedic Chiefs of Canada represent over 30,000 paramedics across the country.
