Edmonton borrowing Calgary’s ParkPlus system

Calgary’s parking technology will soon be replacing outdated metres in downtown Edmonton.

A trial, beginning this week, will allow drivers in Edmonton to pay for downtown street parking with credit cards and cell phones.

The Calgary Herald reports Edmonton is the first large city outside Calgary to try out the parking technology.

In exchange for borrowing Calgary’s ParkPlus system, Alberta’s capital will be helping our city switch our street lights to led fixtures with sodium vapour.

Local officials hope the move will both cut greenhouse emissions and save millions of dollars.
