Weather affecting harvest

A cool, wet September is not what farmers were hoping for.
After a wet, soggy start to the growing season, most producers were praying for a some hot and dry conditions over the next few weeks, which would allow their crops to mature before the fall harvest.
Rob Saik with Agri-Trend tells 660News the race is now on to get crops off the field and salvage what sprung up over the past few months.
“I’m sure there’s a lot of managers out there at farm level right now looking for additional airation or grain-drying to try to bring this crop in, even in a wet state, and dry it down,” says Saik.
Saik says, despite a rather dismal growing season, most farmers should have something to take to market though their returns could be depressed because crops didn’t have a chance to fully mature.
