Murder suspect stabbed at remand centre

The man charged in a 2004 fatal stabbing is now clinging to life, after being attacked at the Calgary Remand Centre.

Yousuf Bikila was charged with first degree murder earlier this month in the death of Shane Johnson.

He is now in Foothills Hospital after being stabbed by as many as three attackers at the detention facility.

Police spokesman Michael Nunn tells The Calgary Sun the attack was targeted and charges are pending.

Bikila’s lawyer is wondering how the incident unfolded, when his client was supposed to be in one of the most secure units at the centre.
