Late grants forcing student dropouts

Some students have had to leave school because the province isn’t paying their grants on time.

That’s according to the Alberta Liberals.

The delay mostly affects low income Albertans getting funding from the Provincial Works Program.

The Liberals say that wait has caused a 20 per cent spike in the number of students dropping out.

The delay is blamed on a computer system failure.

Government officials say extra staff have been hired to process applications as quickly as possible.
