What could be motivating home invasions

A Calgary police officer is suggesting the city could be seeing more home invasions because bank security is tighter than it used to be.

Acting Staff Sergeant Brad Moore tells 660News robbers could be turning to easier targets.

This comes after two men, armed with guns, robbed a man in the southwest community of Somerset Sunday night.

Moore tells 660News it’s easy to see why thieves could be targetting homes instead of banks.

“There’s a lot of people that keep a lot of money, a lot of jewelry, those types of things at home,” Moore says. “There’s people who have lifestyles that are conducive to some of these criminals being involved with them. Gambling might be one where criminals see people gambling and then follow them home.”

Moore says people should keep their doors and windows locked and answering the door isn’t always a good idea, especially if someone has a bad feeling about doing so.
