SCORCe Re-Opens in Core after three months

The Safe Communities Opportunity and Resource Centre, or SCORCe, is open once again in its home on 7th Avenue, beside the City Hall LRT station.

SCORCe has programs and training in housing, mental health and addiction as well as employment for Calgarians in vulnerable situations, whether physical or mental.

Calgary Police Chief, Rick Hanson says every year, there are over 60,000 social disorders calls made to police for issues that could be dealt with outside the courts.

But thanks to SCORCe, people in need of help, can now get it.

“Word spreads on the street and they’re not going to have to know 20 different addresses and this is also where our officers will bring people. You know, they’re going to be from addicts on the street, people that are obviously suffering from mental disabilities, now we’ve got a place where we can take them where the services can be provided altogether. It’s a huge step in making Calgary, not only safer, but in getting the right service to the right person at the right time,” says Hanson.

The centre initially opened June 18th, 2013 but due to the flood was closed for some time.

It offers services from 8:30a.m.-4:30p.m. Monday to Friday.
