Rookie firefighters take action

A couple off duty rookie firefighters took matters into their own hands Saturday morning.

A fire broke out around 10am at a six-plex on 44th street SE.

The firefighters live nearby and saw the smoke.  The two went over and kicked in the door and helped battle the blaze until crews arrived to put it out.

Battalion Chief Ernie Molineaux tells 660News residents of one suite have been displaced.

All other residents have now been cleared to enter the building again.  Damage is estimated at 20-thousand dollars.

The firefighters who took action are still in their first 3 months on the job.
