Former Calgary mayor John Leslie has died at the age of 90.
Leslie served as the city’s mayor from 1965 to 1969, overseeing the development of green areas such as Prince’s Island, Nose Hill and Confederation Park.
Mayor Naheed Nenshi tells the Calgary Herald, Leslie left a legacy that still affects city residents.
“All Calgarians, even though they don’t know it, are familiar with his legacy every time they walk on the banks of the Bow River or go to Prince’s Island.”
Nenshi says Leslie was a positive, honest man who really believed in public service.
Funeral details haven’t been announced.
